Ghosts are the main enemies in the Luigi's Mansion series. They come in several varieties throughout these games. They each have a set amount of HP, and deal a set amount of damage.

Luigi's Mansion ghosts

Regular Ghosts

Gold Ghosts

Main article: Gold Ghost

The Gold Ghost is the first ghost Luigi encounters during the gameplay. He first sees a "Gold Spirit" in the Foyer that resembles a Gold Ghost, then the spirit dropped a key that opens the path to the Parlor, the first room the player will enter (not counting the Foyer). It has 10 HP and is one of the weakest ghosts. Luigi has to watch out for its punch attack, as when damaged, he will receive 10 damage. Although, they are "Gold Ghosts", in reality, they are orange. Thus, they are vulnerable to elemental attacks.

Purple Punchers

Main article: Purple Puncher

Purple Punchers are the second ghosts Luigi encounters. They first appear in the Anteroom with 20 HP for each Purple Puncher (they had 30 HP during beta but this was changed for unknown reasons). The punch attack of this ghost is very similar to the Gold Ghost's, except they have a longer range and that they attack earlier then the Gold Ghost. 10 HP is lost for each uppercut punch attack, so Luigi has to watch out.

Blue Twirlers

Main article: Blue Twirler

One of the largest non-portrait ghosts, the Blue Twirler deals 10 HP of damage to Luigi every time it pounds the ground, and has 30 HP. They have a rather large body (unlike the Garbage Can Ghosts) and possesses a blue color.

Garbage Can Ghosts

The Garbage Can Ghosts are the third species of ghosts. They have 40 HP and they don't have any attacks, though, they will throw bananas on the blacktop so that when Luigi steps on them, he will slip and will lose 5 HP. Their bodies resemble a trashcan (hence the name) and are a lime-green color.

Speedy Spirits

Main article: Speedy Spirit

Speedy Spirits are the first treasure ghosts encountered. They have similarities to a Gold Ghost. They have the same build, the same HP, and the same sound, however, its tactics are slightly different, they will run away from the player instead of trying to attack them. However, if one is sucked up, it drops a large amount of money consisting of bills, coins, and even certain gems. Note that if Luigi fails to capture one, it will disappear and will never come back (with the exception of the Blackout), so the player will have to reload the game if they want to capture it. The Speedy Spirit can reappear if the player exits the area and comes back if the player uncovers it and was unable to make an attempt to capture it.

Grabbing Ghosts

Main article: Grabbing Ghost

Grabbing Ghosts try to grab Luigi to stop him from moving, this is also how they damage him. The white variants are the only types of this ghost who cannot damage Luigi.

Golden Mice

Main article: Gold Mouse

A golden mouse is similar to Speedy Spirits, but will come back if Luigi fails to get it. It can drop from coins, bills, gold bars, and gems.

Boos

Main article: List of Boos

Boos can be found after you let them out of the trap door which you find after catching the Floating Whirlindas. They only appear after a room has been completed and Luigi will have to have catch all of them to finally get onto King Boo. They have different amounts of HP, depending on where you find them. Ranging from 50 to 300 HP, they also have interesting names made from puns.

Evershade Valley Ghosts

The ghosts from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon reside in Evershade Valley. They are at a peaceful and friendly environment until King Boo shattered the Dark Moon, turning them hostile and aggressive.

Regular Ghosts

Greenies

Main article: Greenie

Greenies are the most common types of ghosts and the first ones Luigi will encounter. They are small green ghosts that have 10 HP each, and can punch Luigi to deal 20 damage. They have the tendency to equip themselves with various types of objects and items, which change up the strategy for Luigi to stun and capture them, such as kitchen utensils, sunglasses, buckets and more.

They have a stronger variation, Strong Greenies, which are faster than normal Greenies and have 50 HP, and a gold variation, Gold Greenies, which release a large amount of money upon being captured and have 20 HP.

Slammers

Main article: Slammer

Slammers are red, beefy ghosts and the second types found in the game. They have 30 HP, and can clap their hands to create a red shockwave that damages Luigi for 20 HP. While they are easier to capture than most Greenies, some Slammers may carry newspapers which shield them from Luigi's Strobulb, and some of them can even bury themselves in sand at the Old Clockworks.

They have a stronger variation, Strong Slammers, which have 150 HP.

Hiders

Main article: Hider

Hiders are the third types of ghosts encountered in the game. They are thin, blue ghosts that have 15 HP and hide in furniture to throw objects at Luigi, which can deal 10 damage if they successfully hit him. A stronger variation, Strong Hiders, have 75 HP.

Poltergeists

Main article: Poltergeist

Poltergeists are orange ghosts with big heads and a brain, and are the fourth types of ghosts encountered in the game. They use telekinesis to throw objects at Luigi, and have 50 HP each. Some are even found to have musical talents, particularly playing the piano. They have a stronger variation which serves as a mid-boss in the Treacherous Mansion, the Strong Poltergeists, which has 200 HP.

Gobbers

Main article: Gobber

Gobbers are big, fat yellow ghosts with 100 HP and are the fifth types of ghosts encountered. They do not move at all, though they can spit yellow goo that forms slippy puddles on the ground. They can also damage Luigi by knocking him with their large guts. They have a stronger variation, Strong Gobbers, which have 200 HP.

Creepers

Main article: Creeper

Creepers are purple, gelatinous ghosts and are the sixth type found in the game. They start off in the form of puddles, and can trap Luigi inside of their bodies to deal damage. If Luigi breaks out of the Creeper, it will spilt into smaller Creepers. They can also hang from ceilings. Creepers are the only normal ghosts to have infinite HP, and because of this, they do not have a strengthened form.

Sneakers

Main article: Sneaker

Sneakers are the seventh and types of ghosts encountered in the game. They are pink ghosts with 25 HP. They can scare Luigi, which disrupts him in catching other ghosts, and can also shove him, which deals 20 damage. They frequently use their invisibility more than other ghosts, so the Dark-Light Device can be used to track them down. Alternatively, they also leave trails within sand or snow, and like other ghosts, can cast reflections in mirrors or shiny ice. A stronger variation, Strong Sneakers, have 100 HP.

Polterpups

Main article: Polterpups

Polterpups are the eighth and final normal types of ghosts in the game. They are undead, white pups with red or blue collars. The Polterpup found in the Dark Moon Quest runs off with various key objects that Luigi will need in his journey. Normal-sized Polterpups will have 50 HP, while Big Polterpups have 100 HP. Blue-collared Polterpups, as well as Big Polterpups, are only found in the ScareScraper. Polterpups are also the only ghosts that are not hostile nor aggressive during the Crisis of Evershade Valley, yet they only act playful and mischievous.

Bosses

Possessors

Possessors are the main bosses in the Dark Moon Quest. There are five known types, each guarding a Dark Moon piece within them and have infinite HP. They possess certain subjects around them to gain new powers and abilites, and they also have multiple layers.

The Three Sisters

Main article: The Three Sisters

The Three Sisters are a trio of female ghosts which are "paranormal celebrities", and were the former owners of the Haunted Towers before they became ghosts. They carry mirrors with them to shield them from Luigi's Strobulb attacks.

They are known individually as Sister Herlinda, the big pink ghost with a green sunhat and has 150 HP, Sister Belinda, the thin, green ghost with purple hat and has 100 HP, and Sister Lucinda, the small yellow ghost with pink bowtie and 50 HP.

Ancient Poltergeist

Main article: Ancient Poltergeist

The Ancient Poltergeist is a powerful Poltergeist colored blue with a cyan brain. He stole the minute hand from the Clock Tower Gate in the Old Clockworks, and retreated to the Roundhouse. When confronted by Luigi, he uses both telekinesis and psammokinesis to attack him, and has 100 HP.

Paranormal chained ghosts

Main article: Paranormal chained ghosts

The Paranormal chained ghosts are a trio of three different strengthened ghosts that have been powered up with paranormal chains, and given the ability to create color-coded chains to block entrances like the Gondola in the Secret Mine. These ghosts consist of a Strong Gobber with 300 HP, a Strong Greenie with 100 HP, and a Strong Slammer with 250 HP.

Strong Poltergeist

Main article: Strong Poltergeist

The Strong Poltergeist is one out of two mid-bosses found in the Treacherous Mansion. He steals the yellow book needed to lower the bookcase in the Study, and retreats to the Space Exhibit. As mentioned above, he has 200 HP and throws stars to attack Luigi.

Boos

Main article: List of Boos in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

Boos can be found hiding in certain objects in the main missions. Like the first game, they each have unique names and personalities, and the Japanese version of the game confirms thay some of the Boos return from the first game with different names internationally. Their HP ranges from 15 to 40, and there are 32 in total (besides King Boo). Out of the 32 Boos, only 12 of them are mandatory to capture.

The Last Resort's Ghosts

In Luigi's Mansion 3, the ghosts residing in The Last Resort are under King Boo's control and attempt to stop Luigi from saving his friends and getting the Elevator Buttons.

Regular Ghosts

Goobs

Goobs are the first types of ghosts encountered. They are blue ghosts and are comparable to Greenies from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. They have a punching attack, and can equip themselves with weapons or other objects to change the strategy to capture them. They have 100 HP. They also have a golden variation, Golden Goobs.

Hammers

Hammers are large, red beefy ghosts comparable to Slammers from the second game. They have 200 HP and can use their large, square-shaped heads to slam the ground to try and attack Luigi. They also have two tails, so two players can deal double damage to them when slamming them with their Poltergust G-00s.

Oozers

Oozers are thin, orange-yellow ghosts comparable to Hiders from the second game. They have 100 HP and can throw objects at Luigi. Sometimes they may hide in furniture to do so.

Slinkers

Slinkers are purple ghosts with odd-looking shoulders, with behavior patterns similar to Sneakers from the second game. They can scare Luigi, carry Toads, and even attempt to take his Poltergust G-00. They have 120 HP each, and like Hammers, have two tails each to allow two players at once to deal double damage when slamming them.

Trappers

Trappers are orange ghosrs with two blue tongues that two players can grab on to deal double damage. They do not have a set amount of HP, but require two Slams to be defeated. They are usually found blocking entrances and can use their tongues to attack Luigi.

Rare Ghosts

Boos

Like the previous games, there are uniquely named Boos hiding in certain objects. There are 16 in total.
